Fingerprinting

Employment, Licensing or Emigration

Applicant background checks are required in Michigan for certain types of employment and licensing. Examples include employment in schools or health care, private security and investigator licenses and driver education instructor certification. Individuals who deal directly with children and vulnerable adults must also be fingerprinted under the National Child Protection Act.

Utilizing digital technology, fingerprints are now captured electronically and submitted to the Michigan State Police (MSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for processing. IdentoGO by MorphoTrust USA is certified by MSP to provide live scan services to applicants throughout Michigan. If you need applicant fingerprints, please contact IdentoGO for fee information and to schedule an appointment.

Immigration and International Academics

Fingerprint requirements for U.S. citizenship are set forth by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). For more information on application for naturalization, please contact the USCIS National Customer Service Center.

Rolled-Ink Fingerprints

The Department currently offers fingerprinting for a person needing an “Applicant (FD-258) Form” completed using the “rolled-ink” method.  This service is only offered Monday-Friday, except holidays, from 8:00am-4:00pm at our main office on the East Lansing campus.  The cost for that service is $5.00 payable at the time the prints are taken.
