Moped Information

As of August 1, 2018, motorized moped type vehicles are not allowed to park at bicycle racks.  Moped operators are required to purchase a permit, affix the permit to the moped, and use designated moped parking areas on campus. The moped registration fee is $50 for a permit valid for the 2022-2023 academic year.  Moped Permits are sold online only for the 2022-2023 academic year.  All permits must be properly affixed to your moped before they are considered valid.  So you must allow for mailing time when ordering your moped permit online.

Students operating a moped on campus are required to register the vehicle with the MSU Parking Office by purchasing a moped parking permit.  All mopeds must also be registered with the Secretary of State Office to be eligible to purchase an MSU parking permit.  Mopeds cannot be operated on campus if they do not have a current and valid registration through the State of Michigan.

Mopeds must be parked (one to a space) in designated moped parking spaces located throughout campus.  Mopeds are not permitted to drive on sidewalks, designated bike paths, or lawns.

The All University Traffic and Transportation Committee recommended this change to the MSU Police Department to promote pedestrian safety and provide needed bike parking space at the bike racks.
