Any bicycle or E-bike operated on campus must be registered and the permit affixed to the bike. Bike permits accepted on MSU’s campus include Bike Index, City of East Lansing, City of Lansing, Lansing Township, and Meridian Township. University ordinances must be followed such as being parked and locked at a bike rack, having the registration sticker displayed, and the bike being in operable condition.
Bikes that are impounded will require a $10 release fee. Additional information on impounded bikes can be found here.

MSU Parking Services has partnered with Bike Index, the most widely used bicycle registration service in the world. By using your bike’s serial number, manufacturer, and component information the bike is registered with a free permit that does not expire. Bike Index allows users to add photos of their bike to their account, update the bike registered to their permit, or transfer permit/bike ownership to another individual. Users can also report their bike as missing or stolen in the Bike Index system.

Bike Cage Permit ($60) - Valid July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024
Bike cage permits can be ordered by calling Parking Services during business hours. These permits are NOT sold online through the portal.
There are two secure bike storage cages offered on campus which include Trowbridge Ramp 5/Lot 102 (by the Communication Arts and Sciences building) and Grand River Ramp 6/Lot 103 (by Olin Health Center/Grand River Ave). Once purchased, a permit will be mailed – your MSU ID will grant access to the secured areas. The bike cage permit must be displayed once received. In addition to the cage permit, bicycles should also be registered and have a regular bike registration permit displayed.
