EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State University Police and Public Safety’s Community Support Division is excited to welcome Maria Valayil as the department’s new Police Social Worker.   Maria is originally from the metro Detroit area and attended MSU for both her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Clinical Social Work. Before coming to work for MSU DPPS, she worked for the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office for more than 20 years.  “MSU DPPS is heading in a direction I really agree with in terms of providing more community support and addressing mental health issues and in a new way, in a different way. MSU DPPS prioritizes safety on campus, announces completion of campus-wide lighting upgrades

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety (DPPS) is continuously looking for ways to improve safety on campus. With this goal in mind, the department, in partnership with MSU Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF), recently completed thousands of exterior lighting upgrades on campus.  The upgrades include the following:  1,420 concourse fixtures replaced with LEDs  1,019 new roadway fixtures installed  264 roadway fixtures replaced with LEDs  247 lanterns replaced with LEDs  “We are grateful for the collaboration with IPF to complete this project,” said Vice President for Public Safety and Chief of Police Marlon Lynch. “Our number one priority is to keep Spartans and our visitors safe. MSU Alert: Reported Armed Robbery

  The MSU Department of Police and Public Safety (DPPS) is investigating the report of an armed robbery. On September 4, 2022 around 3:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to a reported armed robbery in the area east of Bogue St and south of Wilson Rd, near the Veterinary Medical Center. Officers quickly arrived on scene and spoke to both the victim and a witness. The suspects were not located after an extensive search by law enforcement and are believed to have left the area. DEWITT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Former Michigan State University Police and Public Safety Captain Matt Merony has been hired as the new Chief of the DeWitt Township Police Department. Merony served with MSU DPPS for more than 26 years, beginning at the department in 1996. He retired from MSU DPPS earlier this month. “I am excited for my new role as Chief because this will put a cap on my career in law enforcement. UPDATE (8/1 @ 3 p.m.) – A sweep of Fee Hall has been completed and there is no credible threat to campus. —- EAST LANSING, Mich. — On Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, a bomb threat was reported at Fee Hall on the East Lansing campus at approximately 12:30 p.m. The person reported the threat by phone and gave specific information.  Officers responded within minutes and instructed everyone to evacuate Fee Hall immediately.
