EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety (DPPS) is excited to announce our department-wide rebranding. The new brand of DPPS is a recommitment to operating with the highest degree of transparency, responsibility, and respect.

The new brand includes a lime green shield as the department-wide logo, which represents all functions and operations within DPPS. The mark in the center of the shield represents the community, in which DPPS serves and protects.

“The purpose of our department rebranding is to unify the vast resources that DPPS provides,” said Vice President for Public Safety and Chief of Police Marlon Lynch. “We strive for our community to know that in addition to always being available for emergencies, we also offer a vast number of services as part of our comprehensive safety portfolio.”

The new brand works to better reflect the values of DPPS: Collaboration, Equity, Integrity, Excellence, and Respect. This comes alongside our 2022-2025 Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety Strategic Plan, which revisits our priorities and purpose as a department.

“Our mission is to enforce laws and provide public safety services in an inclusive and accessible manner through outreach, engagement, and care to support the Spartan community,” said Spokesperson Dana Whyte. “The new brand is just another way we can communicate with our community that we’re here for them, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to keep everyone safe.”

The new brand of DPPS will first roll out online. Visual elements on the department’s vehicles, building, and around campus will follow.

As always, DPPS can be contacted any time at 517-355-2221 or 9-1-1 for emergencies.
