Citizen's Police Academy

Michigan State University Police and Public Safety hosts a Citizen's Police Academy to give community members an opportunity to learn about different aspects of the department. Members of the academy meet the men and women behind the badge and also gain insight on how a police department operates. Topics covered include the following:

  • Patrol procedures
  • K9 demonstrations
  • Legal system
  • 911 operations
  • Traffic enforcement
  • Crime scene investigation
  • Evidence and evidence collection
  • Officer selection
  • Field training program
  • Specialized community divisions

To qualify for the Citizen's Police Academy, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Current MSU student, faculty or staff member
  • Age 17+
  • Pass a background check
  • Able to attend all 8 sessions
