Michigan State University Police Department Chief Jim Dunlap is pleased to announce the recent promotions of Sgt. Danial Munford to the rank of lieutenant, Ofcr. Jessica Martin to the rank of sergeant and Ofcr. Daniel Childs to the rank of sergeant.
In his new position as lieutenant, Munford will coordinate, supervise and direct the activities of personnel assigned to the Uniform Division. Munford will also be responsible for researching and planning for new programs or techniques in order to enhance police services for the MSU community.
As sergeants, Martin and Childs will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of activities of officers assigned to uniform patrol and assist the Uniform Division lieutenant with the evaluation process of new police officers. In addition, Martin will supervise the department’s Bike Unit and Childs will supervise the department’s Honor Guard.
Munford began his career with the MSU Police Department in 1998. Prior to joining the department, Munford served at the Lansing Police Department and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office. During his career at MSU Police Department, Munford has served as a Field Training Officer and supervised the Defensive Tactics Cadre, Ingham Regional Crash Investigative Team and the Canine Unit. Munford received a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from MSU.
Martin began her career with the MSU Police Department in 2005 after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from MSU. During her career, Martin has served as Community Policing Team Leader, Field Training Officer, and member of the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Bicycle Unit, Special Victims Unit and the Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit. Martin went on to expand her education by receiving a Masters of Social Work from MSU.
Childs began his career with the MSU Police Department in 2009. Prior to joining the department, Childs served as a trooper at the Michigan State Police. Childs has served in the United States Marine Corps and he is currently active in the Michigan Army National Guard. During his career at MSU Police Department, Childs has served as a Field Training Officer and member of the Bicycle Unit, Honor Guard and Ingham Regional Special Response Team. Childs holds a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice and sociology from Western Michigan University.
